The Bloody Bastards' Ravintola
.en
Close your eyes. Listen to the buzz of voices around you coming closer and closer. Imagine your self in a restaurant, people eating, others waiting to be served, candle-lit tables, waiters running around.
Now, open your eyes. You're in a kitchen, the chef is cooking 5 pepper steaks, 3 risotto's and 2 chips, he's yelling at the waiters, waiters give their orders, the sous-chef (me) prepares the plates, serves salads and desserts, keeps an eye on the chef who's about to have a nervous breakdown. It's hectic. People want more food, they like it.
There are not enough stoves. One kitchen is for the pasta, one is for the risotto, the main course and desserts. Pizza and bread are made in front of the customers. Coffee and drinks are in the bar. 8 rooms with tables. Restaurant on the 4th floor, kitchens on the 6th floor (and the elevator is too slow to be used).
11 people on the staff working from 13 hours straight. Opening hours from 5pm to 11pm.
Everyone's back is hurting like hell from all the standing up. Muscles are sore. Once everybody left, kitchen and tables still need to be cleaned.
It has been one long day, but I would do it all over again. We served about 70 people and made more than 1000,00 euro in one evening!
This is the Bloody Bastards' Ravintola.

Wild North
.en
As many of you know, I went to Lapland a few weeks ago. It was absolutely AMAZING!!
We travelled north by train then took a bus and arrived to destination after a 14 hour journey.
There wasn't much snow, but we were still able to go on the husky sleigh ride and reindeer sleigh ride. The place we stayed in was very well organized: we had small cottages with a fireplace, there was a main building with a restaurant where they served typical food (reindeer, salmon, meatballs) and a sauna building. all of this was on a frozen lake surrounded by a forest.
But I must say that the best part of the trip was being able to see northern lights. I was in my cottage, chatting with some friends when they came to call us to go outside and see the magic. WOW. To see these light, dancing in the sky, changing shapes and colors, to see so many falling stars behind it, it was simply unbelievable. I had shivers down my back and couldn't stop smiling. I was out in the cold and the dark for about an hour just enjoying the show.
I couldn't have asked for more from that trip!

One day we were able to go to one of the few mountains Finland has and some of us went skiing, other (like me) went sledging! The last day we also went to Rovaniemi and Santa's Village and we actually got a picture with him. What a dream come true for someone like me who absolutely LOVES christmas!

I apologize for being such a disaster at keeping things up to date. Anyway, here it goes:
So, what's the Ravintola päivä?
It's an international event held in different cities, where normal people improvise a restaurant for the day and earn some money. Well, what a great occasion for some broke exchange students! So, with a group of friends we decided to make italian food: pizza, panzerotti, pasta, chocolate salami, chocolate crostata and apple pie.
Prices were really cheap and lots of our friends preferred our restaurant to cooking their lunch so in the end we made quite a bit of money! And the best part, was that there were also lots of finns that came!!
